Welcome to the serene waters and lush surroundings of Ted Sperling Park, one of Sarasota’s premier kayaking and paddleboarding destinations.  Before you set paddle to water, here’s a detailed overview of what you can anticipate on your adventure:

1. Arrival and Parking: When you arrive at Ted Sperling Park, you’ll find ample parking. This can fill up during peak times, so we suggest coming a bit earlier than your scheduled tour time if you are travelling during holiday weekends or weeks. You’ll be able to easily spot the SURFIT USA setup, where our friendly team awaits.  SURFIT is the first truck that you will come to.

2. Welcoming and Briefing: Once you check in, the SURFIT guides will point you in the direction of the launch.  Take a few minutes to get your group organized and meet the guides at the designated meeting spot at least five minutes before the tour or rentals.

3. Equipment Selection: We pride ourselves in offering top-quality kayaks. Whether you’re going solo or as a pair, we’ll ensure you’re paired with the right equipment. Life jackets are provided  for all paddlers.  We have life jackets for all ages of children as well.  The guides will size up kids for life jackets at the check in.

4. Setting Off: With your kayak or paddleboard in the water, you’re set to explore! Ted Sperling Park is known for its mangrove tunnels, which offer a unique kayaking experience. The calm waters make it easy for even novice kayakers to navigate, and the overhead mangrove canopy offers a respite from the sun.  If you are on a guided tour, follow the guide for kayaking or paddleboarding direction.  If you are exploring on your own, make sure to take a look at the provided map and make a plan for the areas you want to explore.

5. Wildlife Spotting: One of the highlights of kayaking in this park is the abundant wildlife. Keep your eyes peeled for manatees, various bird species, and even the occasional dolphin. Our guides are knowledgeable about the local ecosystem and will point out interesting flora and fauna along the way.

6. Wrapping Up: Your tour concludes back at our starting point. Our team will assist you in exiting the kayak and ensuring all equipment is accounted for.  If you borrowed a dry bag, please make sure to return it to your guide or leave it at our truck.

7. A Few Tips:

  • Sun Protection: Florida sun can be intense. Remember to wear sunblock, sunglasses, and a hat.

  • Footwear: Wear comfortable sandals or water shoes. Some areas can be rocky or slippery.
  • Capture the Moment: Waterproof cameras or phone cases are great. The scenery is photo-worthy!
