Stand Up Paddleboard in Alaska? Of Course!

Our SUP Alaska trips have become something we look forward to every year. We paddle year-round on the beaches in Florida and getting away to the Alaska wilderness for change of scenery calls to us every summer.

Most people think it is crazy to SUP in Alaska but in the summertime the outside temperature can reach into the 80’s and although the water is cold (about high 60’s in most places) it can actually be quite refreshing to jump in after some of our longer paddles. Very few people fall in the water on our trips, most of the time we are paddling on very calm water in low wind conditions.  In the above picture, we were paddling near the glacier and people were comfortable in their bare skin (not that we would recommend that).

In the summer, the days go on forever. It can be 10:00 pm but still seem like it is 5:00 pm. It gives the opportunity for lots of exploring and just enjoying the area.
One of my favorite parts of the SUP Alaska trip, besides the beautiful paddling conditions, are the accommodations at the Alaska Capital Inn. This bed and breakfast is located right in the heart of downtown Juneau and is centrally located to all of the paddles that we do. When we aren’t paddling there are shops, hikes, and great restaurants very close to the bed and breakfast. And, did I mention the breakfast? Every morning, Linda the owner of Alaska’s Capital Inn prepares a five course breakfast. Including dessert! It is the perfect way to fuel up for our days of paddling and exploring together. Linda always makes our group feel at home, can accommodate dietary restrictions and is always able provide great stories and advice about the local area.

In the past we have spotted humpback whales, eagles, seals, otters, and salmon along our paddles. We paddle alongside glaciers, the rocky and wild Alaska coastline, and in some of the most pristine environments in the world.

In our downtime, we explore the local area through hikes and other outdoor activities, like mountain biking, glacier climbs, helicopter tours, fine dining, massage and more. SURFit wants to make sure you have the best time on your Alaska adventure and will work with you to make sure that your every need is met.
If this sounds like something you would like to do, get in touch!  We love meeting people from all over the country that decide to join us on these adventures. We know it takes a certain type of person to jump at the chance to paddle in Alaska and we love meeting people that are willing to join us.  And, we understand you might be travelling with others that aren’t as crazy about paddling as you are. Let us know and we can work with you to create a plan for them while you are out paddling.  We can also modify the schedule so that there are two groups—beginner paddlers and more advanced paddlers.
